Autumn is here

Is it me or is there a chill in the air? I'm thinking ahead and how to keep warm with the cooler evenings ahead and I've almost finished my short poncho that I started months ago. It's coming along nicely now and I should have it finished tonight. My first project almost complete, I can't quite believe I've managed it! I've even planned to knit another one as I like the pattern so much! If you would like the pattern just let me know and I'll send a copy. So lamb shanks are in the oven, the tv is on and I'm going to knit all evening until it's finished. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Amanda

three weeks and counting!

Only three weeks until our holiday, I really need it! Ian is recovering well from his disc operation and I think we could all do with a proper holiday away from everything. We certainly will be away from it all on a canal boat taking in the lovely views and I'll be catching up on my knitting - fingerless gloves for Christmas presents! The plug plants are doing well and we had some rain so that saved me watering them.

Autumn planting

This afternoon I plan to plant some purple sprouting broccolli red spear (I forgot to grow some from seed so bought some plug plants this morning) swiss chard bright lights and some spinach plugs that Debbie gave me. That should keep me going for an hour or so, beats housework! Well it's too nice to be inside today, 20deg outside. Only 4 weeks until we go on holiday and we planned the canal route this morning, so exited! Happy Birthday to my brother-in-law Bob who turns 40 today, welcome to the 40 club! Have a great day. Easy Blueberry jam/conserve

I had a busy morning helping out with the farmers market then walking the dog. So tonight I wanted to make some jam. I had two small punnets of blueberries and I wanted to make this for our holiday in Oct. This is one of my favourite recipes, it makes a lovely conserve texture and has the most wonderful colour. I experimented tonight and added some home grown rhubarb and added 50g more sugar. It turned out perfect, which is more than my plum jam did recently! Here is the recipe ....

Makes: 400ml (1 small and one medium jar)

375g blueberries
200g caster sugar

1.Put the blueberries in a pan with 50ml water. Bring to the boil, then simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring every few minutes, until the berries burst, soften and release their juice.

2.Add the sugar, stir until dissolved, then boil for 10 minutes. Transfer to a container that has an airtight lid, leave to cool, then cover and chill. That's it, vey simple and makes a wonderful gift.

walking on sunshine!

It's the 1st of September, where has this year gone? At least the weather has been fine and sunny today. My week off is almost over so tomorrow I plan to join the heath walkers in Iwade and take in the local countryside. I haven't been before as I am normally at work so I'm looking forward to a long walk in the September sunshine. I've spoken to one of the leaders and the walk should include Chetney Marshes and the Saxon Shoreway, about an hour or so. I'll take the camera, I've remembered to put it on charge tonight. Amanda x
