Planting season has started ......

I potted on the chilli seedlings today (well most of them) I ran out of clean pots as I only brought 8 in from the garden. I was enjoying it so much that I decided to start some tomato seeds in the heated propogator. Lynda kindly sent me some free seeds from this months Gardeners World (Tomato Minibel) so I did half a small tray of them and half Sungold F1. The Sungold were left over from last year, probably an eBay impulse buy! I then found Matina from T&M bought in a garden centre last year for 99p. I'll start them off next month. If the gardening club have another table at this years strawberry fare I'll donate what I have left over. I also bought a packet of Golden Sunrise on eBay. Well it was a great bargain! It feels good to finally start growing something and looking forward to some rewards later in the summer. What have you started to grow in doors? I'm thinking of doing a seed give-away, I'll have a look around and post something later this week.

Garlic planting

There was a break in the weather and I finally got out into the garden today to plant my garlic. First time for me growing garlic, I've heard its much better than shop bought, so thought I'd give it a go. I had already prepared a bed a while back and it was the perfect size. I don't have a big plot as my garden isn't very big. Saying that I manage to grow a variety of veg in the small space I have. I had some canes and netting so decided to protect the area. I have a pair of collar doves who visit my garden and love picking out newly planted bulbs! Just managed to prune a few things and tidy up before the rain came down. Oh well at least I got some jobs done and it feels better being outside for a few hours.
It's been a while since I updated my blog. Haven't had much to report apart from my chilli seeds have germinated, hurray! I just need to take them out of the propogator and look after them. As it's been cold I've been doing my craft stuff and have made some cute funky flower brooches (to keep in with the gardening theme). I plan to give these to my nieces over the weekend. Anyway here are a couple of photos of them pinned to my crochet bag (eBay bargain of the month!)

a view from my kitchen window ....

It's 2:30pm on Sunday afternoon and it's dull and dark. I popped to the farmers market this morning and picked up some local honey, yummy. I had planned to do a spot of gardening but its cold and dark and decided to cook a beef casserole instead. Here is a picture from kitchen window.

to heat or not to heat....

I bought a heated propagator today. Not sure if they work but it's got to be worth a try. My sister says her B&Q one is good. So I started off my chilli seeds. I had some left over from last year (Suttons Jalapeno) and I bought a new pack (Mr Fothergill's Aji Crystal hot) a few weeks back. I planted up 8 pots with a few seeds in each just in case some don't germinate. I chose pots because they were easier to find, were new and clean left over from last year. I'll let you know how I get on. And in case you like me found it difficult to find a heated propagator today, Do it All have them for under £15, B&Q have sold out :-( Wilkinsons had some garlic, so I bought one pack and I was lucky because there were 4 bulbs in the pack. I will try to plant them on Sunday. Have a great weekend. Amanda x
