crochet scarf update

Well I was supposed to finish the crochet scarf before starting another one! I find it impossible to stick to one project. So whilst I was enjoying my new love of crochet I decided to add a frilly edge to a new scarf I made a little while back (and hadn't finished) So here is the Patons Jet Lolly Orange frilly scarf, and just in time because it's freezing cold again... So back to the original scarf this evening ..... and I'm almost half way round with the crochet edge. For a first attempt I'm quite pleased. The pattern did state to use Sublime merino yarn, so I'm going to crochet the next one using the correct yarn. I've found a lovely shade of blue on eBay because John Lewis didn't have it in stock on Friday. Oh well just have to wait a few days. Last night I had dinner at my sisters house. Whilst she was preparing our toad in the hole (which was yummy) I had a craft evening with Yazmin (my niece) and her little friend. I took a bag of felt, buttons, ribbon

Carrots in January!

I just had to get outside in the garden today. After talking to my sister and Anne recently about seeds and plans for this year, made me want to be in the garden! I made a good start clearing all the dead stuff, digging and looked at what I need to do whilst having a warm cuppa. I dug up my leeks and a bunch of carrots. Yes carrots in January! I also dug up some small celeriac which didn't do at all well this time, and I had 15 in all. But it can be used in the chicken casserole for tomorrow with the leeks and carrots, so all is not lost. They are designer veg, small and perfect! Oh and organic. Have fun this weekend. Amanda x

Charity

This week is all about charity. Two people I know are raising vital funds by either cycling to Paris (my boss) or running 5K (Alison Eldridge) I've put links to both their JustGiving pages to give all my readers (all six of you!) a chance to donate some pennies. I know that money is tight in Jan, what with all the Christmas spending. But you can pop back at any time and sponsor these brave (mad) people.

Lazy Saturday

Just logged on to give you an update on my crochet this week. I had planned to finish my first attempt at a crochet scarf. But last night I decided I was holding the yearn wrong so went in search of some new yarn! Not that I don't have enough but visiting my local knitting shop gave me a chance to ask the lady to show me how to do a triple crochet stitch! She obliged and I purchased some Patons Smoothie DK wool that looks and feels like cotton but is machine washable. It's very colourful in shades of pinks and costs £2.35 for a 100g ball. So I sat in the hairdressers this morning working on my new stitch and yes you guessed it a new scarf. So this one should grow quicker and look more like I expected crochet to lok like. So housework went out the window today and cooking too, will have to catch up on Sunday. Here is a link to the scarf pattern that I found http://www.theknittingparlour.co.uk/doc/crochet%20scarf%20pattern.pdf

Crochet, I'm hooked!

I taught myself a new skill over the Christmas period, crochet. I've always wanted to learn how to do it so that I could make a granny blanket (well thats the plan). I and didn't know where to start so I bought myself a book. I didn't really learn that much from the book and decided to just give it a go (and asked some friends some advice along the way). And after three days I had mastered some basic stitches. I'm not very good but practice makes perfect. It's really fun and different from knitting. I'm going to attempt to make a scarf first now that I've practised a bit! I'll post a picture when I've finished it. The wool I've bought to use is Anchor Style Magicline (dotty). It's a cream colour with flecks of colour and is 100% cotton. What I like about it is the texture and it comes out thicker than you first think and grows quickly, much quicker than knitting. The wool is available at Kemps Woolshop for 59p per ball (plus delivery) and is

Build your own igloo!

Well it's been snowing most of the day and the heavy snow started again at around 2pm. It's now 3.50 and it's still coming down. The village is completely white and Sheppey Bridge was closed this morning. I doubt if that will open again for a few days. Here is a picture of the table and chairs near my veg patch.

Leeks in the snow

It snowed again this morning, I guess around another 3cms and still more to fall later today. The slow cooker is on, bread maker is on so no need to venture out! Well I did have to check the fish in the pond so a chance to get a snap of my leeks burried under the snow. I'm sure they will be ok but the spinach, celeriac and carrots are burried and are not visible on the surface. Spinach bounces back but the carrots I'm not so sure about. I knew I should have put the cloche on earlier this month. Anyway enjoy the snow and take care. Amanda x

and yet more snow

Well I got caught out today in the snow. Forecast said snow from 3pm in Kent and it came down at 4pm. I tried to make a quick dash home. How wrong was I, it took 4 hours to get home. I arrived home at 8pm to find 13cms had fallen in Iwade. Here's a picture of my back garden taken tonight. After a couple of strong drinks I'm feeling a lot better! Thankfully I booked Thursday off so I can safely stay wrapped up warm all day! More snow is on the way tonight and Sat/Sun. So no gardening this week, so I'll carry on with knitting.
