Happy New Year

 

I cast on a new waffle cowl on New Years Eve - there’s  something quite satisfying starting the new year with a new project. 

We popped to Whitstable for our last beach walk for 2021 and I literally cast in 5 mins before we left. I do love some in car knitting whilst my husband drives!

I chose some 20g DK hand dye minis I had in my stash and I was drawn towards Love Hearts - my favourite colourway of 2021. Yarn: @myyarnplace DK 20g minis. Although it’s DK weight it feels a littler heavier and I cast on using 5mm Hiya Hiya 60cm circulars- my favourite needles right now.

Pattern: Waffle Cowl @garloedesign It’s a free pattern and only 4 row repeat so it’s easy to remember and it looks so good in the hand dye yarn. At the time of writing this I’ve almost finished it. I do love a quick satisfying knitting project.

If you fancy knitting one I cast on 101 stitches, the first stitch is knitted onto the right hand needle - the original first stitch is then pulled over this stitch - leaving 100 stitches and joined in the round. I did 19 pattern repeats on 5mm Hiya Hiya circulars 60cm and it’s a perfect fit! It’s going to be perfect popped over a thin jumper

Denim Daisy Granny Square construction

And here it is all finished last Friday, just in time for a heat wave! Seriously I do love this jumper and it fits so well with a white t shirt underneath, jeans and flip flops. Just waiting for the cold spell so that I can wear it out (rather than around the garden when its cooled down in the evenings!). Easy eyelet yoke

I’ve recently started my first top down jumper and I don’t know why I didn’t start one sooner!  Trying on my easy eyelet yoke sweater in June! It’s so chilly I was quite happy to try it on. With just 4 inches of the body to knit before the border and then the sleeves. I’ve knitted in hand dye Aran yarn from Fiona Sew Happy Creative it’s beautiful to knit with and I’m mixing up some skeins I had in my stash including Bee Happy. I’ll use this for the sleeves blending into a similar colour for the end of the sleeves. Really happy with the fit. I chose the Xl size with 5.5mm KnitPro Cubics tips. I think it will need 600g in total (roughly size 14) pattern by Knitatude if you’ve always wanted to try top down knitting I recommend you try this pattern
