Another Granny Tee



As a King Cole ambassador, I'm lucky I get to play around with new yarn and new colours each month. The Cotton Top range is my latest yarn crush.

A new project for June

I chose the colour Stone (4221) because it's neutral and will be perfect with jeans, white t-shirt and my old converse trainers. A comfortable, cosy outfit for walks on the beach or just sitting around the house. Now I've finished this one I'm starting another in blue (4218) which is another colour thats pretty neutral. I bought my yarn online but I have been gifted the new colour Mist which will also be made into a jumper, probably the same pattern because its easy to make and wear.


It’s been a little while since I made a Granny Tee by AnnaboosHouse (I've lost count of how many I have made over the last few years). It's my turn to favourite pattern because it holds my interest for long enough before I've realised I've finished a square! And of course I get to have a new jumper pretty quickly.

And as the weather turned from a boiling hot summer to a cool autumn literally overnight last week, I needed a cosy summer jumper to layer over t-shirts or a dress, perfect partners for pattern and yarn. June is an unsettled month weather wise and still is with the UK in teh last stages lockdown, so I need to keep myself occupied and making a whole wardrobe of granny tee's is kind of my plan for the month. Why complicate things?

I made a few modifications to this jumper to make it fit me perfectly. That's what I love about making your own jumpers. If you have the pattern already you can make the jumper fit for you perfectly with only a few adjustments and using DK yarn. I highly recommend the Cotton Top for its softness, stitch definition, cost and available colours I've listed above. Lots of Instagram makers are using it to crochet jumpers so don't just take my word for it. Although hand dye yarn is fabulous sometimes you need to think about the cost and this yarn is just perfect.

You will need to order just 300g of yarn (3 x 100g) for an incredible £9 (plus postage). That's amazing value for a hand made jumper that's going to give you a summer and autumn of wear. You can make 2 or 3 for less than the cost of a shop mass produced jumper! 



Edit: I added an extra round on each square to make it a bit wider (lockdown weight gain) added a htr row to the sleeve after the treble row, added a treble row and htr trow o the bottom to make it longer. Its perfect and I love it! 

Here's how I seam mine. I hold 2 granny squares together, right sides facing each other, I don't use mattress stitch, instead I wip stitch together through all 4 loops. It leaves a lovely neat seam (see pictures 1 and 2 below).

Denim Daisy Granny Square construction

And here it is all finished last Friday, just in time for a heat wave! Seriously I do love this jumper and it fits so well with a white t shirt underneath, jeans and flip flops. Easy eyelet yoke

I’ve recently started my first top down jumper and I don’t know why I didn’t start one sooner!  Trying on my easy eyelet yoke sweater in June! It’s so chilly I was quite happy to try it on. With just 4 inches of the body to knit before the border and then the sleeves. I’ve knitted in hand dye Aran yarn from Fiona Sew Happy Creative it’s beautiful to knit with and I’m mixing up some skeins I had in my stash including Bee Happy. I’ll use this for the sleeves blending into a similar colour for the end of the sleeves. Really happy with the fit. I chose the Xl size with 5.5mm KnitPro Cubics tips. I think it will need 600g in total (roughly size 14) pattern by Knitatude if you’ve always wanted to try top down knitting I recommend you try this pattern
