I've almost finished my crochet cowl by Rosina Northcott (aka zeensandroger on Instagram) that I started last Saturday. I was waiting for more yarn to complete the last row, and its arrived today from Lusciously Loopy Yarn (yeah) just ran out of one row but didn't want to substitute the colour.
When I saw the pattern in Mollie Makes issue 103 earlier this year I knew it was something I wanted to make but I couldn't decide on the yarn at the time. I couldn't find the magazine then searched on eBay and luckily I found a new copy, sealed.
Then recently I bought some hand dye merino yarn from my lovely friend Fiona at Sewhappily Creative and I knew then the main yarn had to be Scheepjes Stonewashed and I have a huge stash of it (all be it not quite enough for the last row!). Fiona introduced me to the Stonewashed earlier this year and its one of my favourite yarns to crochet and knit with. I knitted my Gryer Shawl in May using six colours and I've another on my needles to complete as a Christmas gift using 5 colours.
The drape is fabulous and its a joy to knit and crochet with. An added bonus is its not going to break the bank at £2.99 per 50g and it comes in 30 colours with a gorgeous faded appearance perfect for a vintage look.
For the border I've mixed all the colours following the pattern suggested order but mixing it a little towards the end. You kind of get a feel for the way you want it to look as you are working and its good to tweak it a little (as Fiona would say)
For the main colour I choose Amazonite, its a turquoise blue hue with a gorgeous faded appearance but mixed with the Yellow Jasper, Boudler Opal and Moon Stone it gives a vintage vibe and a tweedy effect to the border when mixed with Happy Holidays colourway by sewhappycreative that matches it perfectly.
The great thing about the Scheepjes yarn is its cotton and mixed with the merino gives a versatile cowl that can be used all year round. I'm off to finish the last row tonight then tackle sewing in the ends. Hopefully I can wear it on Sunday to go out for lunch with my hubby.
