Thank you for all your interest in my striped cowl over on my Instagram account. Here is the very simple pattern.
Later this month I will add the written pattern to my Loveknitting and Etsy shops with some picture instructions. If you start now you could make one for Mothers Day in the UK.
Things you need: gather up your DK yarn scraps, scissors, 4mm circular knitting needs 50cm and a cup of tea/coffee.
Yarn: I've used Debbie Bliss Rialto DK and made mine into 100g balls. I'm not sure how many I used. As I'm knitting another one I am taking notes on the amount used in 100g balls. So far I've made 2 and have only used part of one.
Cast on 90 to 100 stitches.
My first test cowl used 90 stitches and fits me perfectly because the merino yarn does stretch a little. My second cowl I've cast on 98 stitches and knitted one round then before I join in the round I knit the first two stitches together.
Continue to knit every row until your knitted tube measures the size you need, mine is around 55cms
Cast off the piece when it is the desired length using your preferred cast of message (loose not too tight).
Turn the tube the wrong side facing you and gently tidy up your knots. You many need to undo some of them to pull in the stitches. Keep looking on the right side to make sure the stitches are aligned but don't be too fussy, after all this is a hand knitted piece of work.

When you've complete this turn to work back to the right side facing you, fold in half and now you are ready to join the two sides.
I've crochet mine together using single crochet but you can carefully sew if you prefer. That's it. Any questions please get in touch via my Instagram account.
