a snuggly hand knitted striped blanket

I gifted a hand knitted merino wool blanket to my sister Danielle for Christmas last year. The pattern started off from Purl Bee and evolved into my own design with knitted borders to both long edges. Danielle said she liked stripey blankets and she got just that. I knitted some borders with a whole ball of yarn and then others smaller with yarn in my stash. It was all knitted in Debbie Bliss Rialto DK in red, duck egg, apple, dark lavender, bluebell, pink plus another I can't remember! It took me just under 5 months to knit and I finished it at midnight (or just about) on the 23rd December 2014! I started it early but because I added to the plain design it took a little longer.

If you want to make one yourself I cast on 135 stitches onto size 4.5mm circular needed. Each and every row is knitted making it the perfect tv companion project and at the beginning I took it to work until it got too heavy. You don't have to use merino, I'd like to try my next one in Women's Institute yarn from Hobbycraft - its on offer 3 for 2!

A beautiful gift for a very lucky sister. I have used thecWI wool from Hobbycraft and it knits and crochets well. I included a couple of balls in my giveaway last year which went to Kate at Just Pootling. She used some of it to make a hot water bottle cover.

Gorgeous. I love the way you photograph your knitting/crochet. I just lay mine on our table! I must try to be more creative with them!
It looks great, I bet your sister loved it. I've just finished knitting a checked sort of pattern blanket & I'm in the middle of all that pesky sewing up! I've bought some of WI stuff from Hobbycraft but haven't used it yet. It does feel nice & squishy though.

It's fabulous, I love it. I've used Debbie Bliss Rialto in Aran before, it's such a luxury yarn, so soft and squishy, your sister is very lucky to have such a beautiful blanket. I've made a few crochet blankets now but I've never knitted one, I would like to though.
What a wonderful and kind gift! It will be treasured for many a year I am sure. xx
A lovely blanket, the colours look great together, lucky sister!

Denim Daisy Granny Square construction

And here it is all finished last Friday, just in time for a heat wave! Seriously I do love this jumper and it fits so well with a white t shirt underneath, jeans and flip flops. Just waiting for the cold spell so that I can wear it out (rather than around the garden when its cooled down in the evenings!). I haven't written a pattern as such just some helpful notes from my pad. If people want to know how to construct one have added some notes below. As you know the Daisy Granny Square is the design of Sue Pinner from her book  Granny Squares published 2013. I do love Sue's book, its packed with so many projects and ideas and the photos are beautiful. The daisy granny square pattern is quite addictive and you soon have a small pile of them in no time! I have an idea to make another one for the autumn in the same Debbie Bliss Rialto DK yarn but all edged in shade 90 honey, I have enough in my stash. Construction  Notes:  You need to make 18 grann...

Easy eyelet yoke

I’ve recently started my first top down jumper and I don’t know why I didn’t start one sooner!  Trying on my easy eyelet yoke sweater in June! It’s so chilly I was quite happy to try it on. With just 4 inches of the body to knit before the border and then the sleeves. I’ve knitted in hand dye Aran yarn from Fiona Sew Happy Creative it’s beautiful to knit with and I’m mixing up some skeins I had in my stash including Bee Happy. I’ll use this for the sleeves blending into a similar colour for the end of the sleeves. Really happy with the fit. I chose the Xl size with 5.5mm KnitPro Cubics tips. I think it will need 600g in total (roughly size 14) pattern by Knitatude if you’ve always wanted to try top down knitting I recommend you try this pattern
