Mary Jane Booties FREE Knitting Pattern

I'm having a rest from knitting Innocent hats so I thought I would share this cute pattern with you that I'm knitting again (I've just finished a pair in Bluebell today). They make a great gift and only takes an evening (or afternoon with a cuppa) to complete! I have used Stylecraft Luxury Merino in DK and size 4mm needles.

Size

0-6 months
Foot length: Approximately 3 inches (7.5cm)
Ankle: Approximately 4 inches (10cm) circumference with strap buttoned

What You'll Need

Yarn: I used Stylecraft Luxury Merino as its lovely to knit with and has great stitch definition. Just choose what you prefer to knit with. You will only need one 50g ball and that should be enough to make two pairs
Needles: UK 3.25mm
extras: Stitch holder; tapestry needle; 2 small buttons (rounded look cute), about 1/4-1/2" (6-1.3cm); sewing needle and thread to match yarn

Row 19: Knit.

Put first set of 9 stitches on holder.

Bind off all 9 stitches; cut yarn.
Rejoin yarn where you started binding off 21 stitches. Cast on 12 stitches using cable cast-on method.

Row 22 (buttonhole row): Knit 18, knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 1. (21 stitches on needle)
Row 23: Knit.
Bind off all stitches.

Making the Right Bootie

Work same as for left bootie through row 20. Put first set of 9 stitches on holder.
Row 21: Knit 9 stitches on needle; turn work and cast on 12 stitches at end of row using cable cast-on method.
Row 22: Knit 21 stitches (beginning with the 12 new stitches).
Row 23 (buttonhole row): Knit 18, knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 1.
Row 24: Knit all 21 stitches.
Bind off all stitches on needle. Cut yarn leaving 40 (10cm) tail to weave in later. Rejoin yarn to stitches on holder.
Rows 21-23: Knit 9 stitches on needle.
Bind off all stitches.

Finishing

Fold bootie with wrong sides together, and using the invisible seam for garter stitch, sew together back of bootie.
Bottom edges: With wrong sides together, whipstitch cast-on edges together.
Buttons: On the outside of the bootie, opposite the strap side, attach button with sewing needle and matching thread (used doubled), stitching through the holes in the button (or over a button shank) several times. Weave sewing thread through several stitches to secure. (Note: Small buttons may pose a choking hazard, so be sure to stitch securely to bootie.)
Weave in all yarn ends to wrong side of work.

Hi Sweetie, I hope I didn't get you into trouble at work, lol.
You are naughty posting that knitting pattern for those adorable Mary Janes. There is no way I can resist having a go at them now and you already know I have waaaay too many projects on the go! Teehee.
Love Fi x
These are so cute! I'll have to knit a pair for my niece's baby.

I'm the same, start one then get bored and start another! They are so easy to knit but look like you've spent ages making them. I think using Merino wool is much nicer for a baby and you can knit two pairs out of one ball!

Denim Daisy Granny Square construction

And here it is all finished last Friday, just in time for a heat wave! Seriously I do love this jumper and it fits so well with a white t shirt underneath, jeans and flip flops. Just waiting for the cold spell so that I can wear it out (rather than around the garden when its cooled down in the evenings!). I haven't written a pattern as such just some helpful notes from my pad. If people want to know how to construct one have added some notes below. As you know the Daisy Granny Square is the design of Sue Pinner from her book  Granny Squares published 2013. I do love Sue's book, its packed with so many projects and ideas and the photos are beautiful. The daisy granny square pattern is quite addictive and you soon have a small pile of them in no time! I have an idea to make another one for the autumn in the same Debbie Bliss Rialto DK yarn but all edged in shade 90 honey, I have enough in my stash. Construction  Notes:  You need to make 18 granny squa

cables without the cables (Birch Trees scarf)

Earlier this year I came across this lovely Birch Trees Scarf knitting pattern over at Hand Knitted Things . Its one of those patterns that you just have to try because its so pretty and very practical and looks far more intricate and complicated than the 4 row pattern suggests. I like to call it cables without the cables, such a clever pattern thank you Julia Marsh.  I'm knitting mine on vintage no. 7 needles (kindly given to me by my mother-in-law) and using Debbie Bliss Cashmerino charcoal out of my yarn stash that was meant to be for Ian's scarf! shh don't tell him! I use DB yarn all the time, picking up bargains in John Lewis and eBay but its the first time I've knitted with Cashmerino, and it isn't going to be the last. It gives you great stitch definition and the softest yarn ever, I love it. So here is my scarf in progress. It has been sitting in my car waiting to be loved again after I accidentally knitted the moss stitch border wrong. I know ho

traffic jam (crochet simple granny triangle shawl)

I got stuck in the office on Monday night, not the best of situations but this estate I work on does get congested frequently and not helped by lorries breaking down blocking one lane of two. Anyway all was not lost because I'd had a new yarn delivery that morning and I needed an excuse to stop and crochet. And this is how this granny shawl got its name. Isn't it gorgeous? It's crochet in the new Sirdar Colourwheel DK yarn. On first inspection I wasn't that taken with it, but now I love it. No more colour changes, yipee. If you'd like to know how to make this here is the Simple Granny Triangle pattern I'm using or this link . Happy crocheting!
