a small harvest


2012 hasn't been a good year on my little veg patch! Here is this afternoons harvest of cues, toms, beans and chillies. Last year I had so many tomatoes I was making chutney for weeks on end, this year the courgettes have been a disaster too so lets hope next year will be a bit better. The picture is colourful so that cheered me up. This afternoon has been very warm in Kent so I've enjoyed my last holiday day relaxing in the garden.

Yes, that is a good haul indeed. We have had so much rain, that even the tomatoes in the plastic greenhouse refuse to ripen and have just gone rotten!! All of them. The one's outside are not much better, so it looks as though our harvest is done for unfortunately. We have had some potatoes, a few runner beans and spring onions, but that is about all. Well done you. Ann x

I thought I'd lost all the tomatoes but luckily only one plant. I still have the little black cherry ones to harvest, they look nice too. I plan to make some tomatoe apple jam this afternoon with the 1kg I picked

Your little veg plot has done much better than mine. I haven't had a ripe tomato yet, and the beans all got munched by slugs. I've put a late sowing in so I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that I get a late harvest.

Jo - I did a late sowing of direct sown dwarf beans and they have lots of buds. Hopefully we can harvest some in Sept as I hate buying them from the shops!

Denim Daisy Granny Square construction

And here it is all finished last Friday, just in time for a heat wave! Seriously I do love this jumper and it fits so well with a white t shirt underneath, jeans and flip flops. Easy eyelet yoke

I’ve recently started my first top down jumper and I don’t know why I didn’t start one sooner!  Trying on my easy eyelet yoke sweater in June! It’s so chilly I was quite happy to try it on. With just 4 inches of the body to knit before the border and then the sleeves. I’ve knitted in hand dye Aran yarn from Fiona Sew Happy Creative it’s beautiful to knit with and I’m mixing up some skeins I had in my stash including Bee Happy. I’ll use this for the sleeves blending into a similar colour for the end of the sleeves. Really happy with the fit. I chose the Xl size with 5.5mm KnitPro Cubics tips. I think it will need 600g in total (roughly size 14) pattern by Knitatude if you’ve always wanted to try top down knitting I recommend you try this pattern
