Eve quilt, in memory of my grandmother

Hello and sorry for the long pause between my last blog entry.

Sadly my grandmother Eve passed away almost two weeks ago and I had been visiting her in London after work a few nights a week. Since her funeral a week ago I've been a lot less stressed out and feel a lot calmer. Sounds odd but when you say goodbye to someone who's been in your life well all your life it's hard to come to terms with because you still want them around. But in the end she didn't want to be here anymore and we all had to respect her wishes. Funerals are sad occasions that nobody wants to have to do but my family came together to celebrate her life and to show our respects as a whole family. You see for many years our family (on my dads side) didn't see much of each other, these things happen, some silly argument 20 odd years ago and everyone is too stubborn to say hey lets just stop this and stop wasting any more years. All through my teens and into adult life after I moved to Kent I've kept in contact but its been very hard trying to be a go between, upsetting is an understatement. So after such a sad event I no longer have to worry and now we are all together again and a lot of time to make up for.

Now that I've got my crafting mojo back I wasted no time in starting a huge project last night - a quilt. My first quilt and probably my last! I've been inspired by Hen House who's quilts are just so perfect, way to go before I attempt any of them. Mine is a simple one and so far so good it's taking shape and I love looking at the colour combinations and fabrics (vintage Laura Ashley + others) inbetween the normal Saturday stuff (washing, cleaning, cooking, dog walking). I thought I'd share a few photos with you.

I'm going to call this my Eve quilt, in memory of my grandmother. Bright and outspoken as she was but still able to make you smile! Amanda x

So sorry to hear about your grandmother. It's sad how often a tragedy is needed to heal a rift, but hopefully it means you'll be sharing good times together in the future. I can't think of a better outcome for having a sad time.

I have yet to make my first quilt! Yours looks lovely.

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. We've just had some sad news that my uncle has passed away. My mum and dad have both lost two brothers in the past year. The quilt is a lovely idea, it's looking lovely already.

Thank you for all your lovely comments, its very much appreciated x I think it may be an April make as I've unpicked some it this morning as I didn't like the pink square or the little blue ones (wrong fabric) your meant to stick to the same ones. I've just taken a break from cutting more squares!

It's a beautiful looking quilt and will be graced by an equally beautiful name.

I completely understand the release involved after someone you have loved enormously passes away. The knowledge they are no longer suffering is enough to make you feel lighter...albeit very, very sad too...

Denim Daisy Granny Square construction

And here it is all finished last Friday, just in time for a heat wave! Seriously I do love this jumper and it fits so well with a white t shirt underneath, jeans and flip flops. cables without the cables (Birch Trees scarf)

Earlier this year I came across this lovely Birch Trees Scarf knitting pattern over at Hand Knitted Things . Its one of those patterns that you just have to try because its so pretty and very practical and looks far more intricate and complicated than the 4 row pattern suggests. I like to call it cables without the cables, such a clever pattern thank you Julia Marsh.  I'm knitting mine on vintage no. 7 needles (kindly given to me by my mother-in-law) and using Debbie Bliss Cashmerino charcoal out of my yarn stash that was meant to be for Ian's scarf! shh don't tell him! I use DB yarn all the time, picking up bargains in John Lewis and eBay but its the first time I've knitted with Cashmerino, and it isn't going to be the last. It gives you great stitch definition and the softest yarn ever, I love it. So here is my scarf in progress. traffic jam (crochet simple granny triangle shawl)

I got stuck in the office on Monday night, not the best of situations but this estate I work on does get congested frequently and not helped by lorries breaking down blocking one lane of two. Anyway all was not lost because I'd had a new yarn delivery that morning and I needed an excuse to stop and crochet. And this is how this granny shawl got its name. Isn't it gorgeous? It's crochet in the new Sirdar Colourwheel DK yarn. On first inspection I wasn't that taken with it, but now I love it. No more colour changes, yipee.
