Happy New Year

Christmas came and went in a flash, must be a sign of me getting old! Now to look forward to 2011, hopefully taking my new allotment plot in Iwade, loosing a few pounds from eating too many chocs, starting our new room at the back of the kitchen and a week away. I've already started one of these by walking every day with Ian + Moss, it's nice to be out in the fresh air or fog as its been very foggy here today. My in-laws are over for dinner on New Years Day so we can exchange presents from Christmas and I'm planning to cook a huge beef stew and dumplings! Enjoy the rest of 2011 and a Happy New Year for 2001. Amanda x

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year ...

Just to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I've had a busy evening wrapping the last few presents, sewing and eating my mince pies. I made around 40 last night and just one is left for Santa (I did take some to work and to my sisters after work to have with a cuppa! I had planned to make another batch tonight but no time, I've promised to make some more or some jam ones next week. Have a lovely Christmas weekend and catch up with you soon. Amanda x

more snow ....

This morning it snowed and snowed some more, I didn't think we were getting that much snow today. It's even stuck to the side of the house! Ian got up from his night shift around 12pm to a winter wonderland and said lets take the dog out. So out we went into a blizzard literally! I gave him his present a week early (a Barbour trapper hat) to test it out and he loves it. I have a feeling he may get good use out of it this year and next! This afternoon I'm now nice and warm inside and baking some bread pudding for the weekend. The house smells very Christmassy and I just need to make the pastry for the mince pies. If I make them any earlier my two eat them all! Enjoy your weekend and wrap up warm. Amanda x

Finishing touches

It's feeling more like Christmas now that I have most of the presents and have written out my cards. I've still got to sew up a couple of pairs of knitted gloves and make one piece of bunting but still found some time to make personal gift tags using up some felt, buttons + ribbon. They are really simple but make the gift bags look special. Last year I made felted love hearts and knitted ones but I wanted to do something new this year. My sister went to John Lewis this week and commented how expensive their little hand made items are so came home and made her own. Her button heart is lovely and similar ones cost around £10! I've found its getting more difficult to go into the high street to buy craft products but charity shops do a good line in buttons! Enjoy your Sunday whatever you get up to. Amanda x
I enjoyed a quiet weekend. The farmers market was cancelled due to the heavy snow, I managed to do some sewing, knitting and housework! I really enjoyed being at home pottering around. Do you remember my knitted fingerless mits? I wasn't very happy with my first two pairs, they seemed a little on the large side. Rather than be defeated I decided to felt on pair, what a difference a quick wash in the machine makes! I liked them so much the other pair are felting as I type. I still have a mountain of things to do; wrapping, cards to write and presents to find. Hopefully by the end of this week I'll have it all done so that I can sit back and relax a bit more. My Christmas mini bunting came out really well and I have some in the dining room and some around the lounge window. I decorated the tree and put some lights up in the front window (I normally put the star ones on the tree) It was good to be able to make do with what I already had in the loft rather than spend money on
