This is a great way to keep your granny square, well square and not wonky. It works like magic and since using this method I’ve never looked back. To do this you flip over your square so that the previous row and join are now in the bottom left hand corner of the square (wrong side facing you) and you start the next row in the top right hand...

Just granny squares

I've been crazy for granny squares again during the UK lockdown. It must be the soothing satisfaction of those gorgeous little squares, each one made in no time at all. But when you have a little neat stack of them in front of you, you can't help but smile.   So here are some photos of the past week in progress shots, all that colour makes me smile every time and I'm just over half way with my pile of squares. Now that the weather is colder I can sit and add more (using join as you go) and keep warm at the same time. Win win situation.   I'm going to spend the afternoon making more. My yarn stash hasn't moved very much, mainly because I'm using up a bag of smaller amounts left over from previous projects. I'm sure I have enough to make another one or two!

Mustard Granny Cushion (free pattern)

Mustard Granny Cushion Amanda Hurrell Eight-by-Six©   Sizes and Materials List Hook Size UK 4mm Yarn: Stylecraft Special DK 322 yds/295 metres per 100g ball You can use any colour you want to for this pattern. Its great for using up your yarn stash or if you want to make as a present you can use the recipient’s favourite colours.   So many possibilities, its my favourite part choosing colours. 3 x 22mm buttons, I like the look of odd buttons with yarn colours taken from the cushion (I’ve also used four glitter buttons on my first cushion from John Lewis shown on page 8) Wash care instructions: machine washable 40deg, cool tumble dry, cool iron, can be dry cleaned (I line dry mine) Wooden buttons are not normally machine washable, a great tip is to remove them before washing and just sew back in place once the cushion cover is dry.   Colours   For t...

January projects

Well we are into the third week of January and I'm working on lots of projects (as usual) and will have some exiting collaborations to tell you about later this month. Its an exiting month ahead, be sure to look at my Instagram page for updates. granny square love First up is my granny square blanket using Debbie Bliss Rialto DK yarn, my absolute favourite yarn ever and I have a big stash of this hiding under my bed (like you do) So far I have about 40 squares joined with lots more to make. I plan to make 100 in total and maybe no two will be the same. Its a great project for stash busting too. It has to be my favourite project because using join as you go method pieces all the puzzle together and you end with one large colourful blanket thats taken hours upon hours to complete and last years. another granny square blanket

Isn't it  the best crochet therapy ever? I really do love the simple granny square, a timeless classic. I never get bored with making these and its very satisfying to sit back and look at a neat stack. A couple of weeks back it was full on granny square production line. Here are some of the photos I took. Currently have 36 joined and another 60+ to make. Its a great project for adding to as and when you feel like it. I like that kind of no pressure kind of project. classic granny squares I pick it up and instantly smile and the happy colours. I have a few baskets full of Debbie Bliss Rialto DK plus a whole box under my bed full of new yarn (oops!) Its going to be big, perfect for snuggling up on the sofa. Full of merino yarn which is so soft and machine washable (added bonus). Just need to decide on a nice wide border. I'll  be picking this up over the weekend and playing with colours. My preferred joining method is join-as-you-go because I love the vintage ...

Granny square jumper & Dill Tee

June must be a month for me making tees the knitted and crochet kind. I started my denim daisy tee about a week ago, a re-worked version of what was going to be another blanket when I had the brain wave to turn it into something to wear. The denim colour really does make the colours pop don't you think? the back of one jumper meets the front of another tea time in my garden on Sunday morning And I also started my Dill Tee from the lovely We Are Knitters, its my first purchase and won't be my last. I love how you can take the cardboard bag with you that doubles as yarn holder and I managed to find 15 mins to add a few rows whilst waiting for my manicurist on Saturday morning. The instructions and kit are just perfect for beginners and more advanced/experienced knitters, everything is in the bag ready for you to cast on. I'm now a #wakambassador so if you fancy a peek at their range (they have a sale on this week) you can use my link here just a...

Daisy granny square

In April 2018 I started this pretty blanket, it never got finished. Last night driving home I decided to turn it into a granny jumper all joined in denim blue. It’s looking great, pictures to follow on my Instragram account this weekend. I do love Sue's book, its packed with so many projects and ideas and the photos are beautiful. The daisy granny square pattern is quite addictive and you soon have a small pile of them in no time! I plan to crochet more tonight - my perfect chill out kind of Friday night.
